The Bold LIE of Kohler - BEWARE - Inferior materials and workmanship for high prices! Apr 21, 2011
By Michael in Austin I purchased both the Fairfax and the Forte models of Kohler bathroom faucets. Half way through my fixture replacement process, I removed these from their packaging and couldn't believe what I was seeing. This is not a solid metal faucet. It is a hollow faucet shaped body made of two snapped together pieces of thin, stamped, chrome plated metal with a cheap copper-like tube running inside the body to carry the water. You can't tell this when they are mounted up on the wall at the store. I was appalled. I had thought that for a hundred and fifty dollars I'd at least be getting something made out of solid metal, especially since it is manufactured with cheap Chinese labor. The aerator is screwed into this cheap inner tube and was difficult to remove. It required continual turning with a wrench until it was completely off. Upon reinstalling the aerator, with hardly any tightening force, the inner tube bent and the aerator then sat crooked inside the cheap body/housing. The projects had to be put on hold while we piled this crap back into their boxes, drove back to the stores (each model from a different big home improvement store), and began the process of finding a different brand of faucet that matched the styling of our bathroom décor. When the clerk asked why I was returning it, I told them because it was pure junk, period.
We, the customers, are being DUPED when we fall for buying this CHEAP CHINESE MADE PRODUCT, that at first sight appears to be of high quality, but PAY MADE IN AMERICA PRICES!! Caveat Emptor... Shame on Kohler and any other trusted name brands that are sticking it to hard working people while they reap huge profits from cheap labor, cheap materials and apparently cheap management.
We bought a Moen model that was less expensive, had a faucet made of solid metal, easier to install with quick-connect lines, and best of all...It is made in the USA.

yeap, they're plastic Oct 12, 2011
By Bob Justman I bought one of these for my bathroom. I was amazed to discover it was plastic, coated with metal plating. I, also, had to replace the aerator, and had the same problems. This unit doesn't leak, thankfully, but I believe that is due to the fact that I did not purchase a single-tower unit, which I did for my kitchen. Big mistake, as noted, below.
For my kitchen, I bought the Kohler Fairfax kitchen faucet. When I disassembled unit to investigate a leak in the tower (which other owners have also reported) I discovered that this kitchen faucet is also plastic. Worse, it's unrepairable because their are few gaskets and washers. So, I have to buy a new kitchen faucet.
You can bet I'm buying a Moen.

New World Order Faucet Apr 02, 2012
By ceeb Yes, it's true. Kohler faucets, like every other brand of home fixture/appliance (and just about every other material object sold now), is made in China. So you buy crappy-to-mediocre quality or you buy nothing---or you painstakingly restore a vintage fixture. That being said, Kohler is on the high-end of cheap Chinese junk, and with that in mind I give it 3.5 stars. Yes, some of the parts are plastic, but it has a lot of metal too. But compared to most other brands (Delta, Moen, etc.) it's still one of the better brands available until America starts making stuff again. I wonder what rich people buy now. Anyway, here are my pros and cons:
PROS 1. Seems fairly well designed overall (except stopper connection, see below) and is very attractive if you are looking for a retro-style faucet. 2. It's relatively easy to install if you are reasonably handy. 3. The aerator is easy to swap out. 4. Quality is OK for what is available nowadays. 5. It works. Hot water flows nicely from the hot side, cold from the cold side. Amazing.
CONS 1. Uses too much plastic for the price. 2. The stopper rod connection (a small set screw) doesn't cut it. I had to jury-rig my own fastening system. In other words, when you pull the rod to close the drain stopper, it comes free after only a few times. Poorly designed. 3. The aerator is plastic. 4. The "porcelain" knob caps are (surprise) made of plastic. 5. The set screws that attach each handle to the base loosen easily from normal use. I had to use threadlocker to keep that from occuring.
So there you go. If Kohler people read these reviews, I hope they care and take notes.
Elegant well-designed lavatory faucet Nov 16, 2011
By NJGram Kohler Fairfax widespread polished chrome lavatory faucet with polished brass accents is heavy, well-designed and elegant. It is larger than many faucets, and it balances well with a larger pedestal sink. It is so comfortableand easy to use. To quote the plumber who did the installation "Kohler makes a really good faucet!"
Exactly as advertised Apr 16, 2011
By Katlaw58 I already had this faucet in my main bathroom and, when I started renovating my powder room, I wanted to replace the American Standard faucet with this one. It arrived very quickly & was exactly as advertised. It is now installed in my freshly renovated powder room and I LOVE it!! Would highly recommend the product & the Seller to my friends.
