4Product works but...  Jan 27, 2010 By C. Cooper
I received the product under expedited shipping. The first item I received was in fact an returned product from another customer. Their customer service sent me out another one overnight and actually refunded me the shipping charge from the first! Great. Problem was the color wheel should have been shipped with the recommended adjustments to the CCA settings. These are in fact produced by the manufacturer and are included when the leave the factory. The reseller didn't include them, and when I called, had no idea what I was talking about. Expect to adjust your CCA settings after the replacement wheel is installed...

5Do it yourself and save yourself $200 - $300 in repair costs!  Jul 19, 2011 By TheTerrorBeyond
You will know that your color wheel is going out if your television starts making a loud whining/grinding noise. At first I thought that the fan was going bad, but the television completely stopped working after a short while. This is what happened with my bedroom television (Samsung HLR-7178W) and decided that it would be better to try to fix it myself than to pay a repairman.

I would suggest using a grounding strap before touching internal components of the television, just to be sure that you don't introduce static electricity and accidentally damage something.

Replacing the color wheel was very easy and shouldn't cause any problems for anyone who is moderately handy with electronics. The television is basically a modular setup where you remove entire sections of the electronics assembly. You will take the back panel off the television, remove one cable the connects the two modules (both slide out). You will unscrew the white cable from the right side of the assembly on the left side. There are a number of cables that connect in the module on the left, so I would suggest taking a picture of the positions of the cables if you are unsure of what you are doing. Once you have the cables disconnected, you can remove the left-hand module.

Once the module on the left is removed, you will slide the light engine module out. This module contains the DLP bulb, color wheel, etc. The color wheel is under a cover to the left of the bulb. There are, I think, three screws holding the assembly on. Once the screws are removed, you will need to remove a couple of simple flat cables from the main board; these are simple to remove, so don't worry. Lift the defective color wheel out of the module and replace it.

DO NOT touch the color panels on the color wheel, as fingerprints will not help your color fidelity.
DO NOT touch the face of the DLP bulb.

If you have any worries about the process, simply take pictures with your camera phone or digital camera as you disassemble the television in order to be certain that you get everything back as it should be. In the end, you will find that it is extremely easy to replace the color wheel and you will be happy that you saved yourself $200 to $300 in repair costs

I can confirm that this part works with the Samsung 71" DLP (HLR-7178W).

1WARNING! L3 vs. L6 CHASSIS CONFUSION!  Mar 15, 2012 By MarcoBuzz
Just wanted to publicize the fact that a Samsung HL-R4266WX's may incorrectly list the L6 chassis (L64C to be specific) on the sticker on the back of the TV. Mine does but, as I found out, actually takes the one for the L3 chassis (part #BP96-00674A). I discovered this as result of trying to install the color wheel I received and cracking one of the color segments on the wheel. (This occurred because the L6 part sat lower than the L3 would have.) Upon further research, I then realized that the part I was replacing was actually the -00674A. They are distinct parts, most significantly in the size and shape of the rubber seals on each. So, before you order, remove the part and compare its appearance with the ones on here. It may save you the 80 bucks that I didn't.

By the way, no response from Samsung Direct Parts Warehouse when I sent them an email making them aware of this issue. (Keeping it real professional guys...) So I ordered my BP96-00674A part from Union Electronic Distributors, 110 bucks, including shipping: [...] Had to holler at it.

1NOT an OEM replacement  Dec 04, 2011 By foundgum "Scott M."
Everything about my transaction with this seller was outstanding: super fast delivery, prompt updates on the package's location. The only problem is that this item just doesn't fit my television properly. It's *almost* a perfect fit, but sadly "almost" won't get the job done. The rubber gasket that's attached to the bottom of the housing prevents it from being seated cleanly in the chassis. More disturbing is that there's a strip of metal which faces the lamp that absolutely does not match the OEM part.

Hate to say it but this part is going back and I'm going to spend the extra money on a true OEM replacement.

I have the 50 samsung dlp and it started buzzing like a chain saw. went on youtube for instructions. Unfortunately the chassis for my tv was the other chassis rather than this one but i removed the color wheel from this chassis and replaced it into my original chassis put the tv back together and it works great 3 months later.
